Photographing the Kansas Night Sky

Join Creative Light Team members Craig McCord and Jane Palmer as they host a comprehensive night photography workshop in the Flint Hills of Kansas
Join us at the Flying W Ranch for this unique opportunity to photograph the dark skies of the Kansas Flint Hills. Craig McCord and Jane Palmer will lead you through a comprehensive classroom and field workshop that will instruct you in field techniques to allow you to produce striking night-time images.
Kansas Prairie Nights
Workshop instruction includes:
Classroom: Initial instruction subjects will include equipment, focusing techniques, camera settings, evaluating exposure, composing, best times for night photography, locating the Milky Way, shooting star trails, light painting techniques, and more.
Night Shoot: Following our initial class the afternoon of June 18th,we will venture out to a predetermined location to put into practice techniques learned during the afternoon classroom session. We will be shooting both star trails and Milky Way.
***Getting great Milky Way photographs requires a dark clear sky! We have no control over the cloud cover, of course. So if the weather doesn't cooperate, we will plan on additional classroom time, including post processing exercises, so that you are ready to do some night shooting on your own whenever you encounter dark and clear nights!
Price: $450 This fee includes instruction, facility access fees, and chuck wagon meals for 1 evenings and breakfast meal morning of the 19th. This will be a great opportunity to interact with fellow photographers as we participate in the rapidly growing popularity of nighttime and Milky Way photography.

A deposit of $250 will reserve a spot, with the balance due 60days prior to the workshop.
Lodging: The Flying W Ranch will be accommodating our lodging requirements at their beautiful guest lodge and cabins. Here we get some rest before beginning our post processing session. Lodging is not included in the workshop fee and your reservations for lodging should be made directly with the Flying W. Meals: The Ranch will be providing a chuck wagon meal after the initial classroom session and before we venture out for our evening of night photography on the 18th. A full hot breakfast will be served on the morning on the 19th before we break up and head home. These meals are included in the workshop fee.
